Everyone who is following me on Facebook had the chance to get a preview of my latest make last weekend. I was on the search for a name and sooo many people came up with brilliant ideas so it was very difficult to choose one! (And there are now on another list of potential names for future makes :). So thank you so much for helping me out on that front. After being named I can finally post the pattern. Mr. Edison Watts is going to be my next contribution to the Craft Club yarnbomb attempt in August. I’ve got more of the lime green yarn left, which I’m going to turn into more woodland themed animals, just not sure yet what it’s going to be. Is there anything you would want to see in lime green?

Let’s get started:

with green

Make Magic ring, ch 1

Round 1: 6 sc (dc) in magic ring. (6 st)

Round 2: 2 sc (dc) in each st around. (12 st)

Round 3: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next st*, 6 times (18 st)

Round 4: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 2 st*, 6 times (24 st)

Round 5: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 3 st*, 6 times (30 st)

Round 6: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 4 st*, 6 times (36 st)

Round 7: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 5 st*, 6 times (42 st)

Mr. Edison Watts - The Lightbulb Snake

Round 23: sc (dc) in each st around (18 st)

draw up your last loop a little bit but don’t fasten off at this point. From now on we’re going to start Edison’s stripy bit

Mr. Edison Watts - The Lightbulb Snake

Round 24: sl st your contrast colour into the next st, 18 sc (dc) around, draw up your last loop again. As you can see in the picture you’ve now got two “working” loops. (If you’re unsure what I’m on about have a look at the tutorial I made for Grace, where I describe the colour change in more detail)

Round 25: Insert your hook into your lime working loop and sc (dc) around (18 st)

Continue with changing the colour like this, stuff along the way (make sure not to overstuff though, otherwise, you won’t be able to bend it afterwards)

Mr. Edison Watts - The Lightbulb Snake

continue until you reached your desired tail length. I made 54 rounds of contrasting colour but that’s totally up to you and also depends on the yarn you’re using and your tension. The last round of your contrast colour will be a decrease round [*sc2tog (dc2tog), sc (dc) in next 1 st*,  6 times. (12 st)]. Fasten off your contrasting colour.

with green:

*sc2tog (dc2tog)*,  6 times. (6 st)

sc (dc) in each st around (6 st)

fasten off and sew remaining hole closed.

Make Magic ring, ch 1

Round 2: 2 sc (dc) in each st around. (12 st)

Round 3: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next st*, 6 times (18 st)

Round 4: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 2 st*, 6 times (24 st)

Round 5: in backloops only sc (dc) in each st around (24 st)

Round 6-11: sc (dc) in each st around (24 st)

Round 12: in front loops only *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 3 st*, 6 times (30 st)

Round 13: *2 sc (dc), sc (dc) in next 4 st*, 6 times (36 st)

fasten off and sew onto Edison’s head (you can slightly stuff the hat if you want to)

  1. This may be my first comment not posted really late at night… only because it’s PAST midnight here in the eastern U.S. That’s what happens when your busy :)

You’ve been able to make a snake into a cute guy!
With his name he even seems smart ;)
Congrats! And thank you so much for sharing.

  4. Absolutely love this! I’m making it for my 1 year old nephew right now, he loves to drag things around and this will be a perfect substitute for the wires he tends to get a hold of

Thank you! I would love to see a picture of him dragging the snake around :) Def more child-proof than wires! x

Very cute! I will try and make this for my grandson but I can’t figure out what is happening between round 22 and 41?

    • San Reply

Thanks a lot Lennie! There was a small hick up with the rounds numbers! Sorry for that! All corrected now :)
